Welcome to the Open Community Discussion on ICJMT at CU Boulder

Take the 4 question survey that gathers information about how people are interested in this area!  Regularly updated results available too.

See what people are saying!  "What is Your Ideal?" -- responses to the survey question

ICJMT is a shorthand to capture research in areas relating to information, communication, journalism, media and technology. The aim of this site is to map out the specific ways we as faculty are interested in this area. To learn more about the ICJMT project, visit this page from Academic Affairs.

This discussion coincides with a review by an External Review Team, invited by our Provost to advise the campus on possible directions. Click here for the charge given to the External Review Team.  The External Review Team--on campus in Feb 2013--will make recommendations to the campus that might have significant impact. There is a real opportunity to create something that could fill existing needs or build on our existing efforts. And to take advantage of that opportunity, we need to speak up. Although many faculty have been involved so far, it's time to reach out to systematically to hear from everyone who might be interested or affiliated with in this area.  UPDATE:  The External Review Team has issued their report, online here.

My name is Michele Jackson, I'm on the faculty in the Department of Communication, and I've volunteered to coordinate this discussion. If you'd like to help coordinate, administer this site, or edit pages on this site, that is fantastic, and please email me at jackson@colorado.edu.

Project Objectives

Ultimately, our goal is to help campus leadership decide:

  1. What is the best way to organize our work in the ICJMT area?
  2. What areas of strength in the ICJMT area are interested in being involved?
  3. What obstacles are there to creating a stronger CU presence in the ICJMT area?

Project Steps:

1. Who on our campus does research in these areas?

      Process:

  • Gather names listed under relevant topics in the the vivo database
  • Gather names from relevant campus committees
  • Gather names from activities so far
  • Ask for your suggestions!

    Progress:

  • Here is the list of vivo topics that seem most directly relevant to information, communication, journalism, media, or technology
  • Names gathered from prior committees (exploratory committee, steering committee, faculty curriculum/program development grants)
  • Number of faculty contacted so far:  297
  • Number of faculty responding so far: 172 completing survey, 6 responding otherwise

2. Who on our campus wants to be involved in whatever the campus creates?

    Process:

  • Contact each person and ask their interest

    Progress:

 3. What do campus leaders need to hear or know to make a good decision?

    Process:

  • Hold discussions on this site
  • Report here anything shared in email

    Progress:

  • Number of faculty contributing so far:
  • Discussion topics so far:
